It's a Rogue World feat. A Thanksgiving Veg Recipe That's Anything But Boring 11.4.24

At Rogue Paq we are explorers, foodies, readers, and design-addicts to our core. Join us for a weekly round up of articles and ideas that inspire us and our designs.

This week get ready for: a peek into Sally Rooney's new book Intermezzo, a healthy and delicious carrot and feta recipe, and a spotlight on our current fashion obsession. Plus, we share our best tip for choosing the cannabis strain that's right for you. Let’s dive in!

Our Current Read: Intermezzo by Sally Rooney

I just finished Intermezzo, the fourth novel by Sally Rooney, and I found it incredibly moving. She is incredibly deft at writing about emotional connections in all of their joy and complexity.

The story revolves around two Irish brothers, Peter and Ivan, who navigate their complicated lives after their father's death. Peter, a lawyer, is in a tricky relationship with Naomi, while still grappling with feelings for his college girlfriend, Sylvia. Then there's, Ivan, a shy chess prodigy, who struggles to find his place in the world. Rooney, as ever, beautifully captures their emotional journeys and emphasizes the importance of deep conversations in forming connections. Even though exploring grief is a theme throughout all of Rooney's books, this one is more hopeful than her earlier works.

Intermezzo, which means a break in a musical piece, symbolizes unexpected twists in life, much like a chess game. It's a wonderful framework for the story as it unravels. It wouldn't be a Sally Rooney book if it didn't explore the complexities of love; but it’s also about understanding ourselves through our relationships and experiences.

Current Fashion Obsession: The YSL Bea Bag

Longtime readers know I'm also a Wardrobe Stylist primarily in NY (@wardrobewhisperer). Recently I've been talking a lot with my clients about how relaxed the fits are these days. A perfect compliment is a refined yet slouchy bag like this YSL Bea Bag in suede. She's the neutral you are missing right now.

Harissa Roasted Carrots and Chickpeas by Gathered Nutrition

Nourishing our bodies is every bit as important as nourishing our minds. I recently came across this recipe for Harissa Roasted Carrots and Chickpeas with Feta. This dish combines vibrant flavors with healthy ingredients, making it a perfect meal. You simply toss carrots and chickpeas in a spicy harissa sauce, roast them until golden, and then top with feta cheese. It’s not only tasty but also easy to prepare!

I love how cooking can be a form of self-care, and this recipe is a great way to enjoy nutritious food while having fun in the kitchen.

Happy cooking!

For the carrots

  • 6 large carrots, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt, to taste

For the chickpeas:

  • 1 jar/can of chickpeas
  • 2 tbsp harissa sauce
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt + pepper

For serving:

  • 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
    • 23 oz feta
    • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
    • 12 tbsp tahini
    • Chili-infused olive oil

    Instructions

    1. Preheat oven to 400°F and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Add your carrots and toss with the olive oil, honey, garlic powder, smoked paprika, and a generous pinch of salt. Bake for 15 minutes.
    2. Meanwhile, drain and rinse your chickpeas. Pat dry with a clean kitchen towel, then toss in a bowl with the harissa, olive oil, and salt and pepper.
    3. After 15 minutes, flip all the carrots over and move to one side of the pan. Spread the chickpeas out on the other side. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
    4. Allow carrots and chickpeas to cool for 5-10 minutes. Spread yogurt out on serving dish, then add carrots, chickpeas, and remaining toppings. Serve and enjoy!

Our Best Tip for Choosing the "Right" Cannabis Strain

With so many strains available, choosing one can feel overwhelming. Cannabis strains have unique characteristics based on their cannabinoid and terpene profiles. This may sound complicated. But at Rogue Paq we have one tried-and-true method for choosing strains that work well with our chemistry: smell it. Most times if the smell is appealing to you, the strain will be a good match for your chemistry. We've smelled myriad strains and always gravitate towards citrus, specifically lemony smells. High in Limonine (cultivar) Super Lemon Haze is our fave. Here's her breakdown:

Average limonene content: 0.74%

Average THC content: 24%

Average CBD content: 0.1%

While factors like desired effects, price, and potency should also be considered, next time you're at the dispo, don't be afraid to let your nose lead the way.
